GRASP Version 10

19 Jan 2012

A more efficient way of modelling antennas

We are pleased to announce the release of GRASP 10. With a brand new, modern interface and intuitive functionality GRASP sets the new standard for reflector antenna modelling tools

The new GRASP 10 comes with a fully redesigned GUI, which has been built from the ground. GRASP now offers a more intuitive way of setting up of the antenna design and of controlling the modelling. In addition, the new version offers a structured project management which makes it easier to run multiple analyses and visualize and compare results faster. At the same time we have laid down the tracks for an upcoming integration of post-processing functionalities as well as a tighter integration of the TICRA software suite.

The aim has been to develop a more intuitive GUI  which makes the modelling of reflector antennas more efficient for both the experienced and the inexperienced user, while maintaining the high accuracy and speed which has always been the hallmark of GRASP. Based on the feedback from our beta-testers, we have succeeded!

Intuitive way of setting up the antenna design

The comprehensible GUI consists of menus, tool-bars and tabs that provide easy access to individual parts of the program. A wizard is available for fast setup of antenna geometries. In addition to the well-known single paraboloids, centre-fed and offset Cassegrain/Gregorian antennas we now also support axially-displaced (ring-focus) dual-reflector systems.

New Project Management

Avoid the hassle of inventing and remembering data file names. The new GRASP version maintains an efficient project structure with a minimum of user-specified files. And several jobs can be submitted sequentially from the GUI, with different antenna parameters and/or analysis specifications. All analyses performed in a project are kept in a directory structure that enables quick roll-back to precisely the geometry you want.

Fast visualization and comparison of results

The quick access to the most important output results is a prerequisite for fast design iteration in a few steps. This is achieved in the Results tab window that currently supports color plots of data grids and classical pattern cuts. More features for the Results tab are being planned for upcoming releases.

Maintained compatibility

Even though the GRASP GUI has become more advanced, we have maintained compatibility with GRASP9. Existing GRASP projects can be read and executed, and file formats are unchanged. Further, the program may be executed from scripts in the same way as previous versions.

How do I get the new GRASP version?

The new, more efficient GRASP version comes at no extra costs for customers having an active GRASP Technical Support and Maintenance contract.
