Measurement validation of CHAMP’s extreme accuracy
A measurement campaign on a compact reflector terminal serves to substantiate our repeated praise of CHAMP’s accuracy.
The antenna is around 44λ at 20 GHz and consists of a hat-feed and a shaped reflector, all designed with CHAMP. Testing was done at the Technical University of Denmark, the location of the high-precision ESA-TUD spherical test range. The hat, or splash-plate as the reflector in front of the feed aperture is sometimes called, is supported by a dielectric material. The influence of this is of course taken into account in the design as well as the analysis process.
In addition to the extremely good correlation between the blue curves (measurements) and the red (CHAMP predictions) it is noteworthy that these simulations were done in less than 2 seconds on a standard laptop.
